Any type of aircraft repair requires adherence to certain standards and procedures. And since regulations require the jet to be kept in a condition suitable for safe operations, the ultimate goal of repair work is to return the private jet to a safe condition.

Aircraft repairs can be major and minor. A poorly performed overhaul can significantly affect weight, balance, structural strength, powerplant operation, flight performance, or other qualities that affect airworthiness. In addition, major repairs include work that, in accordance with accepted practice, can’t be performed using elementary operations.

Anything that isn’t included in the category of major works belongs to minor repairs.

These definitions are often controversial when deciding on the classification of a proposed repair. For a more accurate determination, one should be guided by the rules and regulations of the country of registration of the aircraft, because private jet has to obtain permission to operate exactly there.

Most often, the aircraft needs the following types of repair work:

  • Structural repair Structural repairs are carried out on aircraft that have structural damage (for example external skin, stringers, frame, pressure bulkhead, etc.). Typically, such damage caused by ground service equipment, maintenance stands, bird strikes or lightning.

  • Systems repair This includes some types of repairs to aircraft systems (pneumatic, hydraulic, fuel, etc.). This type of repair consists of a simple replacement of a part or component. The defective part removes and replaces with a new one.

  • Components repair This type is perhaps the most ambitious, it can vary from a simple replacement of parts to a full overhaul. This type of repair consists of determining the cause of the malfunction and replacing the failed components. The component is disassembling, cleaning, inspecting, repairing, reassembling, testing, and returning to operation.

  • Engine repair An engine overhaul is usually done in a workshop, where you can completely disassemble, clean, inspect, repair, reassemble the engine, and then test its performance

  • Avionics repair Avionics repairs are treated slightly differently from other components. This is due to the fragility of the board and equally fragile electrical or electronic parts. For the repair of avionics, special clean rooms are used to exclude the ingress of dust and other impurities.
